You Are Welcome at

St. John's Anglican Church, Ancaster!

Welcome to St. John's Website.  Please use the menu above to explore the ministries, outreach and community activities of the Anglican Church in the heart of Ancaster.   A general welcome and introduction are further down this page, so you can also scroll down and read on!

In response to God's gift of life, and of redemption in Jesus Christ, we are a Eucharistic people who seek to live out our baptismal vows in our lives.  As we work, give, and serve to build up this community in faith, we seek to embrace a broad spectrum of belief in the God of Love, who we experience as our Creator, Redeemer, and Holy Spirit.

Our Prayer for St. John's Church:

Gracious God,

in Jesus you call humanity to reconciliation and wholeness.

You call us to love you

and to love one another.

May our ministries at St. John's reflect

your compassion and mercy,

your wisdom and justice,

your generosity and welcome to all.

May all we say and do reflect

your abundance and your grace.

Amen.

A General Introduction to the St. John's Community

The best way to learn about St. John's is to worship and work with us over a period of time.  You are most welcome here, especially Sundays at 8 & 10am.  We practice open font and open table, and warmly welcome all who seek a faith in Christ in their lives.

St. John’s is a community of people from every walk of life. This congregation seeks to honour and welcome all people, without exception. We are blessed with a long history here in Ancaster, but are not complacent in this: we have an outward-looking ethic of service to our world today, and a vision for faith and service into the future.  We hope that this website will give you an overview of how we live out our faith in a God of Love.

We Are Anglican Christians

We are a branch of the Christian faith called the Anglican (Episcopal) Communion. Trust, community, tolerance, inclusivity... Anglicans are called to embrace a large spectrum of ways to believe, with the common bond of living out our Baptismal vows, and taking our place in the continuing story of God’s reconciliation and wholeness in Christ today.

While Anglicanism has its roots in England, it now stretches around the globe and has a great wealth of different cultural expressions. That variety is a great gift. Anglicanism is a dynamic, living tradition that is called to listen for ways to be faithful through a balance of scripture (the library of books and letters of the early church), tradition (the ongoing experience of faithful people in the centuries since), and reason (the good minds that God created in God's image, in each of us today).

This website can point you to places to read more about what Anglicans believe. But the best way is to decide for yourself: bring your heart and your mind, and experience our worship and our service to the community. We celebrate God's continuing presence in scripture and sacrament, in prayer and worship, in our ministries in the world, and in the story of our own daily lives.

St. John’s Welcomes You

As you browse this site, you'll see the greatest strength of St. John's is a wonderful mix of people, sharing all their various gifts. You’ll find people in our community at every stage of their walk in faith, from the seeker to those with a mature sense of God at work in their lives. We make no claim to be perfect, but rejoice that, despite our imperfections, by God’s grace, together we are much more than the sum of our parts, and accomplish much more than we could ever ask or imagine.

We believe that everything, including life itself, comes from God. Through our worship and ministry, we seek to offer our lives back to this abundant God, and to bring life and love to others.

Wherever you may live, we encourage you to seek out a Christian community where you can deepen your faith, and live more deeply in the knowledge of God's love for you, of God's grace in your life, and of the perfect freedom that is found in living for others. And, wherever you are, your prayers for the ministry of the people of St. John's would be appreciated!
